Session Title:  Keeping It Moving: Cooperation Across State Lines

Session Description: This session offers a panel discussion from traffic operations leaders from the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware Departments of Transportation.  They will discuss their traffic operations programs, individual challenges, and approach to working together across their shared state lines to keep traffic moving in the region.

Speaker Bios

Manny Anastasiadis is a 25-year veteran of PennDOT, and has overseen the dramatic expansion of District 6’s Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) and Intelligent Transportation System programs, which include traffic cameras and travel-time message boards. He oversaw many Pennsylvania "firsts," including the first state RTMC and first travel-time message board system and first use of integrated corridor management, in which efforts are coordinated with stakeholders, planners and other state governments to manage traffic flow in the region.

Gene Donaldson serves as Operations Manager for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), where his primary responsibility is to manage DelDOT’s transportation management program. The program includes operation of the 24-hour statewide Transportation Management Center; planning and implementation of Delaware’s intelligent transportation system; incident and event management; emergency management; and transportation homeland security.

Wasif Mirza was appointed to the position of Director, Division of Traffic Operations Systems and Support in January, 2014 after serving as the Manager of this unit since coming to NJDOT in October, 2011. As the Director of the Division, Mirza and his team are directly responsible for providing for the planning, design, construction, review, inspection and maintenance of technology related projects and intelligent initiatives. Mirza oversees a construction budget for technology projects and initiatives which exceeds $35 million dollars and a staff of 45. He is responsible for providing engineering services along with technical support for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and smart initiatives, vehicular mobility during construction, development of smart signals systems along State corridors, Connectivity and communications (V2I), and advanced traveler information systems deployment and management.
